Lego Inventions, Computer Building and Electric Circuits

Our Santa Barbara Summer Camps are designed to demostrate real-life applications of engineering and technology. When using LEGO as the medium, basic mechanical movements and real light ciruits are studied so that when kids are putting LEGO bricks together, they are imagining REAL-Life.

When building Lego elevators, we discuss real elevator parts.

When we make LEGO cars, we go outside (if safe), open the hood of a real car or look under and identify real car parts.

When using lights, our students learn about basic circuitry and build their own light circuits to install onto their Lego inventions.

To expand our students' knowledge of light circuitry, Bryan Ho of Citrix comes as a Guest Speaker and correlates the flow of electrons to binary code. The kids assemble basic computer blocks onto motherboards just like assembling Lego bricks onto Lego baseplates.  Our 3rd thru 6th grade students are able to assemble computers to working condition and bootup MSWindows operating system.

Irene provided an engaging, hands on activity for my students, complete with essential background information and real world connections. My students really enjoyed planning a model city built to withstand natural disasters, and Irene helped them test their plan in creative and innovative ways.
